Robert Lewandowski Believes He Would From A ‘Great Partnership’ With Messi At Barcelona
As rumours of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona continue to gain weight, a fresh report from Mundo Deportivo’s Fernando Polo has highlighted how superstar Robert Lewandowski would feel about a possible partnership with the Argentine legend.
Lewandowski arrived at Barcelona last summer, precisely to fill the gigantic void left behind by Messi, who had to leave the club in 2021 due to circumstances beyond his control.
The Poland captain made an exceptional start to life at Barça and quickly became the leading man for Xavi Hernandez’s side as one would have expected.
However, the goals have dried up for Lewandowski after the World Cup break, with some niggling fitness issues bothering him. At the same time, the former Bayern Munich superstar has also suffered from the injury-enforced absence of creative players like Pedri and Ousmane Dembele on the pitch.
And, it is for this reason that Lewandowski would be ‘delighted’ by the potential return of Messi next season, reports Fernando Polo.
The 34-year-old striker is well aware of Messi’s wizardry and his ability to create goalscoring chances and believes that the pair can form a ‘great partnership’ at Barcelona should the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner secure a return to the club.
There had been reports of some tension between the pair after Lewandowski’s comments about Messi not voting for him at FIFA’s ‘The Best’ Awards in 2021, after the latter had said that the Pole deserved to win the Ballon d’Or in 2020, which was not awarded due to the pandemic.
Messi and Lewandowski crossed paths in the FIFA World Cup late last year and had a conversation during and after the match. More recently, the Barcelona superstar praised the Argentine and welcomed his return to the club, saying:
“Messi belongs at Barça and if he comes back it will be incredible. We know his place is here at Barcelona. I don’t know what will happen, but I hope that next season we can play together.”
It now remains to be seen if fans get to see Lewandowski pair up with Messi at Barcelona next season, with the club working hard behind the scenes to make the transfer happen.
