Writing for Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal are interested in a move for Ruben Neves this summer, but he could be too expensive for the Gunners.
The midfielder has long been linked with a big move for a number of years now, and it looks as though he may finally get his transfer away from Wolves this summer.
The Portugual star is one of the names on Arsenal’s list of midfield targets for the summer, but, as ever, things aren’t going to be that straightforward for the Gunners.
Indeed, according to Romano, Neves could simply prove to be too expensive a player for Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window.
Romano shared what he knows about Neves and Arsenal.
“Before choosing the best candidate, Arsenal want to be sure of qualification for next season’s Champions League: Ruben Neves is on the list for sure but the price could be too expensive, Youri Tielemans is certainly appreciated and Arsenal are among the clubs interested in buying them if the transfer conditions are favourable, around €30-35m because his contract will expire in June 2023 and he’s 100% leaving Leicester in the summer,” Romano wrote.
Ruben Neves is a fantastic football player. In fact, he’s even been described as ‘sensational’ in the past, but with Wolves reportedly wanting £100m for the ex-Porto man, you have to say that he wouldn’t be worth the money.
Even at half of that £100m asking price, you’d have to say that Neves still may not provide value for money, and, in all honesty, there are better deals out there.
As Romano writes, Youri Tielemans is available for a lesser fee, and there’s an argument to be made that he’s an even better player than Neves.
Neves would be fantastic for Arsenal, but the Gunners shouldn’t be spending hugely to get this deal over the line.
