SARRAT FINISHES ELEVENTH IN YOKOHAMA WHICH MADE HIM LOST THE LEADERSHIP OF THE WORLD SERIES

Serrat finishes eleventh in Yokohama and gives up the lead

The Spanish triathlete Antonio Serrat lost the leadership of the World Series, now held by the Frenchman Léo Bergère, after finishing the event in Yokohama (Japan) in eleventh position, less than two minutes behind the winner, the British Alex Yee.

Serrat, fifth in the first two rounds of the World Cup that were held at the end of last year in Abu Dhabi and Hamburgor, he could not stay at the top of the classification after a test with Olympic distance and on a short circuit.

From the beginning, the two-time French world champion, Vincent Luis, he stepped on the accelerator and set a tremendous pace on the water that later influenced the rest of the race. Luis, along with Dorian Coninx, generated a long line of triathletes in which Alex Yee, after the winner of the test, came to be 35 seconds away in 34th place.

Serrat put up with the guy as best he could and managed to stay on the bike with a large group that he did not have to endure the harsh conditions presented by the asphalt hours before. The rain-soaked roads were almost completely dry for the men’s event and by the end of the second lap of the circuit the leading group was made up of 36 athletes.

The test was decided on foot, where 25 athletes, including Serrat, got off the bike practically at the same time. Again, Yee wasn’t the quickest in transition, but he overcame the lack of him to hold off New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde’s growth spurt.

They both took the lead in the race and the two Olympic medalists, they managed to get rid of the rest of their rivals and with five kilometers to go they had an advantage of 13 seconds over Léo Bergère and 21 over Pierre Le Corre. Serrat, far away, had already lost his options.

With a 40 second lead with one lap to go, Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde traded attacks in a gripping 10,000 final. However, the two reached the finish line together, the Briton being better in the last meters and taking the victory.

Hayden Wilde brushed glory with his second place and Léo Bergère, finished third, as in Hamburg, to place himself with 2,075 points in first position. Serrat, stayed in the 1,923 and lost the lead. For his part, Roberto Sánchez Mantecón, He finished the test in eighteenth position in his first World Cup race in Olympic format.

In the women’s event, another British, Georgia Taylor-Brown, He took the victory after finishing the three tests with a time of 1:51.44 ahead of France’s Leonie Periault and Bermuda’s Flora Duffy. The Spanish Miriam Casillas was tenth, almost four minutes behind Taylor-Brownwho leads the world championship with 1,925 points to Duffy’s 1,856, second in the standings.
