Sergio Busquets Expecting A Formal Renewal Offer From Barcelona In The Next Few Days
With each passing day, Sergio Busquets is getting closer and closer to becoming a free agent as his contract with FC Barcelona expires on June 30.
The 34-year-old has been an excellent servant for the club for well over a decade and continues to be a regular in the lineup under Xavi Hernandez.
The manager sees his captain as an important part of the team and wants to renew his contract for another year. While the club had second thoughts about it in the past, they are also on board with the idea.
Amidst interest from clubs in the MLS and Saudi Arabia, Barcelona are keen on speeding up the negotiations with Busquets and ensure that he stays put at Camp Nou for one more season.
And, according to Adria Albets, Busquets is now expecting a formal, written contract proposal to arrive from Barcelona in the next few days.
In the past, it had been claimed that the midfielder had his heart set on a transfer to the MLS, where Inter Miami are strongly interested in his services. However, Busquets has become more open to continuing at the club of late.
But for that to happen, the 34-year-old will have to take a massive pay cut considering the Catalans’ Financial Fair Play problems.
In fact, reports have suggested that the new deal that Barcelona will offer Busquets will see his wages drop to three times lower than his current salary.
Considering that the FFP situation is proving tricky, signing new players will likely be difficult. So, Barcelona hope to tie down their current players such as Busquets and ensure his continuity for at least one more year.
With an offer likely to be presented soon, it will be interesting to see if the former Spain international is willing to accept the terms being offered.
