TEENAGE ‘UNBELIEVABLE’ FINISHER HAS BEEN CALLED INTO THE ARSENAL FIRST-TEAM TRAINING YESTERDAY BY MIKEL ARTETA.
Arsenal’s young striker Mika Biereth was called into senior training on Wednesday as Mikel Arteta takes a close look at the teenager.
That’s according to Jeorge Bird, arguably the best source out there for all things about Arsenal’s youth team.
It’s claimed that Biereth was one of a number of young players called into first-team training ahead of facing Southampton this weekend.
James Hillson, Zak Swanson, Mazeed Ogungbo, Miguel Azeez, Omari Hutchinson and Lino Sousa were also in Arsenal training.
Given the injuries to Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey, Arteta may have needed to beef up his Arsenal squad.
Biereth was given a chance to shine and you can probably suggest that he is now Arsenal’s third-choice striker.
Alexandre Lacazette usually leads he line with Eddie Nketiah on the bench, but Biereth is yet to get a chance.
Biereth, 19, joined Arsenal from Fulham last summer and has been tipped for a huge future in North London.
In 19 Premier League 2 outings this season, Biereth has racked up 10 goals and four assist in a strong first season with Arsenal.
The Danish Under-19 international could emerge into the Arsenal first team in the coming years and may even be on the bench against Southampton.
Praised as an ‘unbelievable’ finisher by Arsenal youth recruitment chief Yousuf Sajjad, Biereth is clearly highly regarded at Arsenal.
A loan move for Biereth would be ideal next season, allowing him to go out and play senior games just like Nketiah and Folarin Balogun have in recent memory.
For now, Biereth will just hope for a first-team debut before the end of the season, which may be a tough ask with Arsenal chasing Champions League qualification.
Of those youngsters featured in training, Sousa may actually be the most likely to feature in the first team soon given Arsenal’s problems at left back.
