Aston Villa are set to intensify their pursuit of Rangers defender Calvin Bassey following his outstanding season
Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey has attracted the interest of top European clubs following his impressive performances for Rangers in the 2021/22 season.
The Nigerian defender starred for Rangers in their impressive Europa League campaign where the Scottish club got to the finals but lost to Eintracht Frankfurt via penalties.
According to a report via The Times, Aston Villa has now intensified their pursuit of the 22-year-old defender as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The Birmingham Mail also reported that representatives of the Villa Park outfit were also in attendance at Hampden to watch Bassey as Rangers won the Scottish Cup final against Hearts
Calvin Bassey joined Rangers from English Premier League side, Leicester City’s academy in 2020 but has become a key player for the Scottish side and has made 64 appearances for the club

Meanwhile, Gabriel Agbonlahor says Calvin Bassey would be his first-choice transfer at Aston Villa as the Nigerian’s qualities indicate he would fit in right away at Villa Park.
According to Soccernet, the former Aston Villa captain confessed he is a fan of the Super Eagles defender who has shone for Rangers in the outgone season.
Bassey who joined Rangers in 2020 has also been a subject of interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
