Thiago Silva Out At Chelsea Owners As He Fears Blues Could ‘Make Same Mistakes’ Next Season

Thiago Silva thinks the Chelsea owners have overseen too much change this season after the Blues were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Real Madrid effectively ended a dismal season for Frank Lampard’s side with Rodrygo scoring twice on Tuesday night as Los Blancos beat Chelsea 2-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate.

Chelsea are currently 11th in the Premier League and without any prospect of ending the season with silverware, while they have no chance of finishing in the top four and qualifying for next campaign’s Champions League.

It has been miserable season with the club on their third manager after Lampard took over as caretaker boss from Graham Potter after he was sacked earlier this month.

Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have spent around £600m on new players over the last two transfer windows and Silva has admitted that the volume of signings has disrupted the Blues this season.

“I think the first step has been made. An incorrect step, but it has been made,” Silva said.

“We can’t be blaming the managers if we don’t take responsibility. It’s a hard period for the club, with a lot of indecision.

“Change of ownership, new players arriving – we had to increase the size of the changing room because it didn’t fit the size of the squad.

“A positive point is that there are amazing players in the squad but on the other hand there are always players that are going to be unhappy.

“There is always going to be someone upset because not everyone can play.

“The manager can only pick 11 from a squad of 30-something – that’s tough.

“Some can’t make the squad, we signed eight in January, we need to stop and put a strategy in place otherwise next season we could make the same mistakes.”

And the Chelsea defender also put a lot of the blame at the door of the Blues players with Lampard losing all four of his matches in charge.

“Everybody talks too much about replacing managers. I think we, as players, must also take responsibility,” Silva added.

“We have had three managers this season, plus a fourth with Bruno where we failed to win. We have lost today and with Lampard we have failed to win.

“Everybody is talking about the manager but we must look at what has been done wrong and try to change.”
