TOTTENHAM EAGER TO SIGN PROLIFIC DEFENDER, WANT TO REUNITE HIM WITH ROMERO AND HOJBJERG, PAPER ROUND.

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to turn to Atalanta star Joakim Maehle as they eye a deal to sign a new wing back this summer.

That’s according to a report from the Daily Mail, who claim that Maehle is on Tottenham’s summer transfer wish list.

It’s suggested that Tottenham see Maehle as an ideal option to play at left wing back under Antonio Conte.

Sergio Reguilon’s future looks uncertain after a number of injuries but Conte is getting the best out of Ryan Sessegnon.

Selling Reguilon and signing Maehle could be the plan for Tottenham, but the Dane has great versatility.

Maehle is actually right-footed so would be just as comfortable starting as Tottenham right wing back moving forward.

You may remember Maehle from Euro 2020 where he excelled with Denmark, where he played as a left back.

Speaking of Maehle’s international displays, his record of nine goals in 25 caps for his country is hugely impressive from defence.

Maehle’s versatility will be hugely appealing to Tottenham, knowing that he can play in either wing back role comfortably.

Yet with Son Heung-min preferring to cut inside from the left wing, Tottenham may be taking a risk by signing a right-footed left wing back.

That would naturally bring play inside from both left-sided players, potentially making Tottenham a little too narrow at times.

Maehle has mostly played down the left for Atalanta this season so is certainly comfortable there, it just depends on how Conte wants his Tottenham team to attack.

Maehle, 25, played with Tottenham defender Cristian Romero at Atalanta and the pair could now reunite in North London.

PIerre-Emile Hojbjerg also knows Maehle from international duty, where the wing back has played with Christian Eriksen too.

Those links could make Tottenham very appealing to Maehle, who has played 24 times in Serie A this season.

Fabio Paratici has great ties to Italian clubs and that could put Tottenham in the box seat to sign Maehle this summer.
