Tottenham Manager Comments On Clement Lenglet’s Future: “Type Of Player We Want”
Clement Lenglet is one of many players returning to Barcelona this summer following a loan spell elsewhere. He is currently plying his trade for Tottenham Hotspur, but his loan spell will expire at the end of the season.
Unlike Abde Ezzalzouli, though, Lenglet does not have a future at Barça, with the club more than happy to sanction his sale ahead of the new season.
Fortunately for the Catalans, they won’t have to look far for a suitor. It is Tottenham themselves, who have been linked with a permanent move for the Frenchman, following the player’s impressive performances in the Premier League.
As we enter the final stretch of the campaign, interim Spurs manager Ryan Mason has hinted at the club’s desire to keep him in North London.
“I’m sure these conversations will happen in the summer. At the moment it’s not on my mind, but I would say that Clément is the type of player we want in the training ground,”
The young coach went on to praise Lenglet for his character, adding, “He’s professional, he does it right. He’s vocal and the more people we can retain, the more beneficial it is.”
Ryan Mason’s comments will give Barcelona some form of satisfaction as they desperately look to offload the former Sevilla starlet in an attempt to add fresh revenue to the coffers.
However, the deal is far from done. It must be mentioned that Spurs will appoint a new coach in the summer and it is likely that the future of Lenglet will be decided by the new manager.
Lenglet himself is reportedly keen on waiting for Spurs to hire a new boss before he commits to Spurs on a permanent deal, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the talented centre-back this summer.
