Chiefs are reportedly set to successfully secure the services of midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane after agreeing transfer terms in principle.
During this past transfer window, Chiefs looked set to bring Mduduzi Mdantsane to Naturena, but the deal with Cape Town City fell through at the last minute.
As recently reported by the ThisIsFootball publication, though, Chiefs were to set to “take a second bite at the Cape Town City star”, even as Chairman John Comitis had suggested that they were planning to offer him a long-term deal – having already triggered the one-year option – unless they receive a big offer at the right price.
It now seems that this has materialised, with leading SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe reporting that the two clubs have agreed to the transfer of the talented midfielder, in principle, effective 1 July.
Although the last move for Mdantsane fell short after a transfer fee was unable to be agreed upon in time, it seems that progress has now been made to ensure a deal can be ironed out within the next few weeks.
CAPE TOWN CITY HAVE ADDRESSED THE CHIEFS AND MDANTSANE LINKS PREVIOUSLY
City head coach Eric Tinkler recently suggested the club had virtually accepted they would be losing the talented player during the last transfer window, until the deal unexpectedly fell through.
“The little that I know, it was very, very close, it was literally last minute that Kaizer Chiefs opted not to go through with the deal,” Tinkler told Marawa Sports Worldwide.
Yet, there were increasing whispers that Amakhosi had once again reignited interest in the midfielder, with that sort of recent talk continuing to grow louder and louder.
MDU’S MOVE JUST A MATTER OF TIME?
However, Comitis has also recently said that after opting to exercise the one-year option in his contract, they would look at securing his services in the long-term.
“I have spoken about Mdu in the past and yes we had a conversation with Chiefs in December, they had their chance and didn’t take it,” Comitis still told SABC Sport on Wednesday. “The guy still has one more year with us beyond the current season and until such time that something changes I cannot keep talking about Mdu again. He must still play the remainder of the season.”
