UEFA Insist Champions League Final Will Take Place In Istanbul
Uefa have refuted reports from Thursday that the Champions League final could be moved from Istanbul to Lisbon.
A story reported on by several outlets yesterday claimed that European football’s governing body was looking at moving next month’s final due to potential political unrest in the Turkish capital.
But a statement on Friday has insisted that is not the case and that the marquee match will take place in Istanbul.
“The 2023 UEFA Champions League final will take place in Istanbul as scheduled, on 10 June 2023,” it read.
“UEFA has no discussions to the contrary with any political institutions, governments or national football associations.”
Real Madrid and Manchester City are currently tied 1-1 on aggregate in their semi-final whilst Inter lead city rivals Milan 2-0.
