UEFA Women’s Champions League Final Between Barcelona And Wolfsburg Sells Out
The 2023 Women’s Champions League final between Barcelona and Wolfsburg at PSV Eindhoven’s Philips Stadion on 3 June has sold out, the first time that has happened since the competition was rebranded from its former guise as the UEFA Women’s Cup in 2009.
UEFA have issued more than 34,000 tickets for the event to crown this season’s European champions and it promises to set a new record attendance for a women’s football game in the Netherlands. That is currently 30,640 when Netherlands hosted Australia for an international friendly in 2019.
Champions League attendance are generally up this season, with average crowd sizes so far surpassing 10,000 for the first time. Total cumulative attendance is already close to 650,000 and will get close to 680,000 by the time final has been played.
Five games this season, four of which have featured Barcelona home or away, have pulled in more than 40,000 fans, with Barça’s semi-final second leg against Chelsea at Camp Nou recording 72,262.
“This is the first time we have fully sold out a Women’s Champions League final. And that’s a few weeks in advance, which is just another sign that we have reached a new level,” UEFA managing director of women’s football Nadine Kessler said.
“The amount of fans who wish to travel with their team has risen enormously, too. Each team has picked up an allocation of more than 4,500 for their own supporters – far more than ever before. In addition, we can expect fans from both teams to have also acquired tickets through the general sale. It’s going to be an amazing occasion for everyone, whether in the stadium or in front of the TV.”
For those not travelling to Eindhoven, global streaming coverage will be available for free on DAZN’s UEFA Women’s Champions League YouTube channel.
