Vitor Roque Makes Promise To Close Ones: “I Am Going To Succeed”
This past weekend Barcelona sealed the signing of Athletico Paranaense wonderkid Vitor Roque, with the 18-year-old signing the documents to finalise the transfer.
While an official announcement is yet to be made, the Catalans have the deal in place and for all intents and purposes, Roque is a Barcelona player.
The La Liga champions will be paying a fixed transfer fee of €30 million for the young striker, with a variable component worth €31 million included in the deal.
Roque has been on the Blaugrana’s radar for a while now and has always wanted to join the club despite interest from the likes of Manchester United, PSG, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Even though the other suitors were willing to offer a bigger, more lucrative contract, Roque never wavered from his stance of wanting to join Barça and has now signed for the club, with the official announcement being the only matter pending.
And, according to Joaquim Piera of SPORT, Roque is very excited about the prospect of playing for Barcelona while his family, too, is elated about the big move.
Furthermore, after signing the documents, the 18-year-old centre-forward made a promise to his family and close ones, saying: “I assure you that I am going to succeed at Barcelona.”
Roque has been in terrific form in 2023, scoring 15 goals and setting up six more for Athletico Paranaense in 30 matches across all competitions. Able to play through the middle or on the flanks, the 18-year-old is seen as a great asset for the present and the future.
That is why Barcelona have handed him a six-year contract until 2029 with an option to extend for another twelve months, effectively tying him down to the club till 2030.
What remains to be seen is whether Roque joins this summer itself or his arrival is delayed until January 2024 due to Fair Play issues.
