A recent report from Depredict has offered an update on the future of Yannick Carrasco. The Atletico Madrid forward was close to joining Barcelona during the January transfer window, with the Catalans even willing to sanction a direct swap deal.
But the move was blocked by Atletico Madrid, who were not too keen on losing out on the attacker in the middle of the season and further depleting their ranks in the attacking department, especially after Joao Felix and Matheus Cunha’s departures.
The report points out how Atleti were frustrated with Carrasco’s attitude during the transfer market and that of his agent Pini Zahavi, who tried to force a move to Camp Nou.
But it also suggests that Carrasco has not lost hope and is still batting for a move to Barcelona at the end of the season. Even though the Belgian is also a target for Premier League clubs, he has prioritised a move to Catalonia.
Barça, for their part, consider Carrasco as a cost-effective option in their bid to enhance the depth of the attacking unit. The Belgian is indeed expected to fit in well with the club’s new wage structure, without forcing the club to make too many financial adjustments.
Not to mention, Carrasco, whose contract at Atleti expires in 2024, will be available for €15 million in the summer. It was agreed during Barcelona’s negotiations with Atleti for Memphis Depay during the January transfer window.
Although significant, the €15 million price-tag for the Belgian is not expected to hurt the financial structure of the Catalan entity.
Reaching personal terms should not be a problem as well, as Barça have an excellent relationship with Carrasco’s agent Zahavi, who had played a vital role in helping the club sign Robert Lewandowski in the summer.
