Alphonso Davies Picks Barcelona Winger As The Toughest Opponent He Faced In Champions League

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies named Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele as the toughest opponent he has faced in the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona locked horns twice this season in the UEFA Champions League group stages, with the Bavarian giants prevailing on both occasions with an aggregate scoreline of 5-0.

In the first fixture played at the Allianz Arena, Barcelona lost 2-0 but gave a tough fight to the German champions, with Dembele in particular causing a lot of problems for Davies out on the flanks.

In fact, the Frenchman was brought down by the Bayern left-back inside the box and what appeared to be a clear penalty was not given to Barcelona.

Now, opening up on the most difficult opponent he has faced in the Champions League, Davies selected Dembele, saying:

“Dembele. The guy is fast. I did my best and held my ground though.”

The 25-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed a stunning season, becoming one of the most important elements in Xavi’s scheme of things.

However, he has been out of action since late January due to an injury. While he was initially expected to be back by this time, there has been a delay in his recovery and recent reports suggest that Dembele could even miss the Copa del Rey Clasico semi-final next month.

Barcelona will be hoping that the forward returns to action at the earliest possible, considering that they have appeared to miss the spark that he brings to the pitch in his absence.
