Andreas Christensen In Final Stages Of Recovery, Could Return Next Week
Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has not played for the club since returning from international duty with a calf injury in March.
Since then, a lot has been said about his potential return and if a recent report from Javi Miguel of AS, is to be believed, the Denmark international could be available next week as he is in the final stages of recovery.
Since Christensen’s return from the international break, Barcelona have played four games, during which they have won just once.
After beating Elche 4-0 away from home, the team lost to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg which was followed by consecutive goalless draws against Girona and Getafe.
It must be remembered that the former Chelsea man was substituted within 18 minutes into Denmark’s 3-1 win over Finland back in March. Barcelona then confirmed that the centre-back had picked an injury to his left calf.
Since then, Xavi has been forced to use the likes of Eric Garcia and Marcos Alonso in the centre. Unfortunately enough, Christesen’s unavailability coincided with the injuries to Ousmane Dembele, Pedri, and Frenkie de Jong.
None of the four injured players have featured for the team in a long time. But for what it is worth, the team is hoping that the likes of Pedri and de Jong will be available for selection for the Atletico Madrid game, which will be played at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday.
As far as Dembele is concerned, he suffered a hamstring injury in late January and while there were reports that he, too, would return against Atletico, the medical staff wants him to wait for another week and return against Real Betis instead.
As for Christensen, it remains to be seen whether or not Barcelona will rush into his return, but it seems like he could be in line for selection against Rayo Vallecano or few days later, against Real Betis.
