Arsenal Slip Out Of Title Race Following Defeat To Brighton
Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes have perhaps taken their final hit, as the Gunners lost 3-0 at home to Brighton Sunday evening.
Here is what we made of the events at the Emirates.
While the title race door was slightly ajar heading into the day, any final push Arsenal may have had at the ready has been squashed in the drubbing at the hands of Brighton.
Many believe the title was lost with three consecutive draws for Arsenal in April, but tonight’s events all but ensure the Gunners have let it slip right at the end.
There is no doubt that this is a new-look Arsenal Football Club, and rest assured, they will be back next season.
But it can’t be ignored that regardless of Man City’s superb winning streak, Arsenal have not done their part to keep the pressure on their title rivals.
The Seagulls have been a revelation this season.
It may have looked like the Cinderella story was set to come to an end when former boss Graham Potter departed the club. But his successor, Roberto De Zerbi, has this Brighton side purring even more than Potter.
With a stunning win at the Emirates, it’s looking more and more like the south coast outfit will play European football next season for the first time in club history.
Brighton are the example for how Premier League clubs can achieve bags of success without big-six money – a superb story for football.
Plenty of work to do
While many have made the ludicrous comparison to Leicester City’s stunning run to the Premier League title in 2015/16, Arsenal are a club built to remain competitive.
With more spending expected in the summer, thanks in large part to qualification for the Champions League, Arsenal will need to strengthen their depth to sustain their momentum across a 38 game season.
It is no secret that Arsenal’s squad is full of talent, and young talent, but perhaps some know-how is needed to make sure the young guns are ready for the fight once again next season.
