MANCHESTER UNITED DRESSING ROOM DIVIDED OVER CRISTIANO RONALDO AND HARRY MAGUIRE ARGUMENT

Manchester United squad are split over who will captain the club for next season as there are concerns over Harry Maguire

English Premier League club Manchester United could witness some rancour ahead of next season over the captainship position.

Current skipper Harry Maguire endured a turbulent last season at the club as they also missed out on the UEFA Champions League qualification.

Red Devils were split last season over captaincy following the struggles that saw them earn their lowest ever total points of the Premier League era.

Centre-back Harry Maguire was the captain of the club for the entire year as he was handed such role of responsibility in January 2020, just six months after he arrived at the Old Trafford.

The England international was heavily criticised following a nightmare season as the club fans called for him to be replaced as captain.

It is also believed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival from Juventus last summer also increased the pressure on Maguire as the Portuguese had previous experience captaining Real Madrid and the Portuguese national team, leading the latter to win Euro 2016, Express reports.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick failed to strip Maguire of the captainship position and now Ten Hag will hope that he can heal the split among the squad, with both Maguire and Ronaldo set to play a part in his plans for the upcoming season.
