Barcelona Convinced They Will Make An Important Leap In The Champions League Next Season
It has been a memorable season for FC Barcelona as they won their first La Liga title since 2018/19, doing so with four games left to be played and a big lead over the likes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
In what was club legend Xavi Hernandez’s first full season in charge as manager, the Blaugrana also won the Spanish Super Cup, beating Real Madrid handsomely in the finals of the competition.
The only blemish on what has been a thoroughly impressive campaign for Barcelona is their run in Europe.
For the second time in a row, the Catalan giants were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the group stages. And, unlike last season, they could not get past the knockout playoffs in the UEFA Europa League either, falling prey to Manchester United.
It is a concern that Barcelona wish to address next season and Alex Pintanel is now reporting that within the club they are convinced that the team will make an ‘important leap’ in the Champions League come next season.
The message coming out from the club ahead of the 2023/24 campaign is: “We will build a great team.”
On that front, work is already being done to close some blockbuster signings starting with club legend and former captain Lionel Messi. The Argentine will be a free agent this summer and could return to Barcelona, with the club awaiting La Liga’s green light on their economic viability plan.
Ilkay Gundogan of Manchester City is another top target for Barça ahead of the next season, although they are facing competition from Arsenal and the Cityzens themselves in the race for the German international.
Adding players of such calibre and experience would certainly elevate this Barcelona team and help them compete better in the grandest competition of European football.
