Barcelona Get A Huge Boost Over Inter Miami In Race For Lionel Messi

Over the past few days, there have been a lot of rumours about the future of Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain. The former Barcelona skipper is out of contract at the end of the season and has become the subject of intense speculation.

It had been reported that Messi wanted to renew with PSG, but has seemingly had a change of heart in recent times and is not in favour of renewing with the French champions.

Barcelona, who have been monitoring the situation of their club legend from afar, are interested in re-signing the 35-year-old. But, reports suggested that Inter Miami of the MLS had emerged as the favourites to sign the Argentina captain.

But, according to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Carpetas FCB), Messi still remains keen on continuing to play competitive football at the highest level in Europe.

This would come as a huge boost for Barcelona if the 35-year-old, provided Messi does not renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Romano also reported that the first round of talks between the superstar’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, and the club took place yesterday.

The Italian journalist added that more talks will take place between the two parties as they look to reach an agreement over the details of the contract.

But, should Messi decide against continuing at Parc des Princes, he would prefer to continue in Europe rather than move to the MLS right away.

Barcelona could not keep hold of Messi in 2021 as financial troubles prevented them from renewing his expired contract. But Joan Laporta & co. are understood to be keen on making a comeback happen.

Any move, though, would depend on how talks with PSG progress as well as Barça’s Financial Fair Play woes.
