Barcelona Planning To Sell 24% Of Barca Studios, Operation Could Generate €150 Million

As Barcelona prepare for the coming summer, there are a lot of uncertainty in regard to their economic freedom, as the club continue to struggle with Financial Fair Play regulations.

It has led to doubts on whether or not Barça will be able to facilitate the return of Lionel Messi, one of their top priorities in the summer.

According to MARCA, though, Barcelona are open to various economic solutions, one of which could see the club cash in on 24% of the stake in Barça Studios. This will be done in an attempt to facilitate the move for Messi.

Barcelona had sold a 25% share of Barça studios last summer to Orpheus Media, a deal that generated just over €100 million. Barcelona could have gained much more from the sale, but the circumstances forced them to sanction the sale on a cut-price deal.

But the situation has changed since, and Barcelona are now planning to sell the remainder of the 24% of the share in Barça Studio, with the hope being that the sale can generate €150 million or even more.

A sale could see Barcelona relinquish 49% of their control in the production hub – the maximum amount allowed by the shareholders.

Sanctioning the sale of Barça Studio should allow the club to finance a deal for Messi. It will also help them make up for the loss of revenue after Barça move to the 55,000-capacity Montjuic Olympic Stadium for the 2023/24 campaign.

However, Barcelona could face one obstacle in their bid to sell their remaining share of Barça Studios, as they need approval from Jaume Roures, whose company Orpheus now owns 25% of the share – enough to hand them an executive role in the company.
