Barcelona President Slams Javier Tebas Regarding Negreira Case: “Blatantly Lied”
Joan Laporta’s press conference, addressing the Negreira issue, has been dominating the headlines in European football today.
The Barcelona president has recently slammed Real Madrid, accusing the Spanish giants of feeding off of power for decades. But his attacks have not been limited to Real Madrid, as Laporta has also criticised La Liga president Javier Tebas.
The Barcelona president stressed the importance of the La Liga president acting objectively and not showing any bias. He further stated that Tebas has failed to follow his duties.
“Javier Tebas has to remember that he is representing La Liga, not himself. He has blatantly lied with his statements,” Laporta said (h/t Barça TV+).
The enmity between Tebas and Barcelona has indeed increased in recent times, with the La Liga president crying out for Laporta to stand in public and answer Barcelona’s crimes. He also reportedly played a crucial role in convincing UEFA to run its own investigation on the Negreira scandal.
Laporta said Tebas has been irresponsible and his public statements could only hurt La Liga more. “I want to point out that Javier Tebas has been very irresponsible, unwise, and blatantly unaccountable. I urge him to stop spreading his theories, which reached the point of him sending false evidence. His irresponsibility only hurts La Liga.”
Laporta’s scathing attack on Tebas also came against the backdrop of the Barcelona president warning all the accusers in the case, citing ‘enormous compensations’. So it will be interesting to see how things controversy evolves as we near the end of the season.
La Liga president Tebas is sure to come up with responses over Laporta’s accusations, but whether or not this brawl will affect the grand scheme of things remains to be seen.
