Barcelona Trio Could Return Against Atletico Madrid, Two Players Ruled Out
Barcelona were dealt with a major blow as Sergi Roberto picked up an injury during the last game against Getafe. The club have confirmed the injury, which will keep the versatile star on the sidelines for up to five weeks.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Roberto is one of two players ruled out for Barcelona’s upcoming league game against Atletico Madrid, joining Andreas Christensen on the sidelines.
Christensen picked up an injury last month and is yet to recover. He has missed the last three league matches along with the Copa Del Rey semifinal second leg against Real Madrid.
On the positive side of things, though, it appears Barcelona could be boosted by the return of at least three players.
The players in question are Ousmane Dembele, Pedri, and Frenkie de Jong. All three players have been recovering on the sidelines for the past few weeks now and are finally in contention to return to action.
The report suggests all three players will train more in the comings days, but have already joined group sessions as of today. Their availability will be determined by how they perform in training and how they feel just before the game.
De Jong, in particular, has made a good recovery and should feature in this game. The Dutchman’s return could be boon for Xavi Hernandez, who has lacked reliable options in the middle of the park lately.
Pedri, too, could return after a long period on the sidelines. Although the youngster may not start against Atleti, there is a possibility he could feature from the bench and go on feature in Barcelona’s remaining league matches of the season.
As for Dembele, the situation is quite tricky. The forward has not been doing well while Barça doctors are also proceedings with caution. It is not guaranteed he may be available against Atletico Madrid, but he could surely return against Rayo Vallecano later in the month.
