Amongst many speculative bits of news we have read about this week regarding Chelsea, there was some new about Ben Chilwell’s future.
The left back has a contract until 2025, and that will naturally start to bring some speculation about his future.
We saw a report from The Athletic (below) come out on Sunday night suggesting that Manchester City are very keen on signing the England international.
CBS insider Ben Jacobs has penned what he knows on the situation in his latest exclusive and extensive Chelsea column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea this week.
Jacobs says that City’s interest in Chilwell is nothing new and it dates back to 2020. However, it appears that ball remains firmly in Chelsea’s court right now, with the player not thinking about leaving Stamford Bridge.
Jacobs said: “Manchester City have long-admired Ben Chilwell. Pep Guardiola tried to sign him from Leicester in 2020 prior to his move to Stamford Bridge.
“Right now there is no contact between City and Chilwell. And the 26-year-old isn’t thinking about a move away. He’s only just got fit and is solely focused on building up minutes. He also has two years remaining on his deal, so isn’t quite in the same boat as other likely Chelsea outgoings.
“Chelsea don’t have a price in mind because they are not planning to sell.”
So there you have it – City will have a fight on their hands if they want to sign Chilwell, and it sounds like there isn’t even any point in them trying.
