Bayern Munich Defender Would Be ‘Delighted’ To Join Barcelona After Last Summer’s Snub

Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui is someone who could have come to Barcelona last summer after deciding to leave Ajax with a letter of freedom. As it turns out, the 25-year-old decided to move to Germany but ever since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, his situation has altered.

In January this year, the defender was diagnosed with a mild inflammation of the pericardium which saw him miss two months of action before returning in March.

Ever since his return, the 25-year-old has struggled for game time and considering his situation, Spanish news outlet SPORT is reporting that he would be delighted to join Barcelona in the summer.

It is to note that Mazraoui was an important player for Bayern Munich in the first half of the season.

However, ever since his health problem, the Bavarians have taken drastic measures, which include signing Joao Cancelo from Manchester City while already having Benjamin Pavard as a right-back.

As a result, Mazraoui has been demoted to the bench and the arrival of Thomas Tuchel has not improved his situation as well. All this indicates that Bayern will certainly not count on him next season and even the player is uncertain about his future.

“Of course, I am disappointed with my situation,” the Moroccan recently said.

“Before the World Cup, I was in the starting XI, now I’m fit and don’t get any playing time. I’m not even the second or third choice. It’s too early to talk about my perspective here. But it’s not good.”

Now, as per SPORT, Mazraoui would be willing to change scenery if he is getting a good sporting offer. In that regard, Barcelona seem to be a good destination mostly because they want to reinforce the right-back spot anyway.

If the situation with Mazraoui continues to persist, they might not have to spend a lot for his signing but in case Bayern play hardball, they might opt for a low-cost loan.

For now, the Blaugrana are keeping close tabs on Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta and there is also interest in Joao Cancelo, who is expected to return to Manchester City in the summer. But if his salary is adjusted, Mazraoui can fit in well at Camp Nou.
