Boost For Barcelona As Real Madrid Duo Are Injury Doubts For Cup Semi-Final
Barcelona and Real Madrid have already clashed twice this season and will be facing off against each other three more times before the campaign comes to a close.
The first of the remaining three meetings between the two behemoths of Spanish football will come on March 2, when they lock horns with each other in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And, according to DEPREDICT, Real Madrid duo David Alaba and Rodrygo Goes are injury doubts for that clash, potentially handing Barcelona a boost ahead of the key encounter.
Alaba, who missed the last game against Barça in the Spanish Super Cup, came off injured during the Merengues’ UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Liverpool last night.
The report states that the Austrian defender has sustained an injury to his right hamstring, which has cast doubts on his involvement in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg next month.
Meanwhile, Rodrygo also had to be substituted with an overload and an assessment of his situation should emerge after further tests are carried out.
As things stand, though, the Brazilian is seen as a doubt for the weekend’s Madrid derby and the subsequent clash vs Barcelona next Thursday.
Their potential absences could come as a boost for Barcelona in the first leg of the cup semi-finals. Rodrygo was one of the scorers for Real Madrid in their La Liga win over the Blaugrana earlier this season while Alaba is a regular fixture in the backline for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
A clearer update on their conditions should emerge in the coming days. Meanwhile, Barcelona will have their focus on the upcoming Europa League encounter against Manchester United.
