Brown Aged 14, Makes History With World Skateboarding Title

Sky Brown took a giant step towards qualifying for the Paris Olympics after winning a maiden skateboarding park world title. The 14-year-old, already an Olympic medallist and Team GB’s youngster ever summer Olympian, will surely head to Paris in 2024 as one of the favourites for gold as skateboarding makes its second appearance at the Games next year.

At the age of 14, Sky Brown became Britain’s first skateboarding world champion after a stunning performance in the women’s park final on Sunday.

Brown posted a best score of 90.83 from her three runs to take victory at the World Championships in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Japanese duo Hiraki Kokona (86.66) and Yosozumi Sakura (85.15) took silver and bronze respectively.

Brown already had the lead when she stepped up for her final run, allowing her to push the limits. Kicking off with an Alley Oop and signing off with a 540, Brown packed her third run with tricks as she breached the 90-point barrier.

When the score flashed up, it prompted wild celebrations from Brown and her rivals – with her 90.83 one of the highest scores in recent women’s park history.

“Being on the podium with these guys is so crazy,” said Brown.

“I just thought whatever happens I am just going to enjoy it. Landing all my runs was an amazing feeling.”

Brown became Britain’s youngest summer Olympian at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, taking home the bronze medal on the sport’s debut at the Games.
