Lionel Messi Advised Against Barcelona Return By Real Madrid Star: “Won’t Win The Champions League”

With the relationship between Lionel Messi and PSG completely fracturing over the past few days, chances of him returning to FC Barcelona in the summer have substantially grown.

While a move still depends on La Liga’s approval of the Catalans’ economic viability plan, it is the only likely roadblock now, as the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is understood to be intent on returning to his former club.

Naturally, there is a lot of excitement among a large section of supporters about the possible comeback of their former captain and club legend.

However, some former footballers and pundits seem to be against such a move. Former Argentina superstar and World Cup winner Mario Kempes had advised Messi against returning to Barcelona recently.

Now, a former Real Madrid footballer, Guti, has claimed that Messi would be better off not coming back to his old stomping ground as he feels that Barcelona are not in a position to win the UEFA Champions League with or without the Argentine.

“If I were Messi, I wouldn’t go back to Barcelona. He already achieved everything there. It’s too big of a challenge at this moment. Now, with or without him, Barça won’t win the Champions League,” Guti said on El Chiringuito TV.

Barcelona, for their part, are working hard behind the scenes to make the dream of Messi’s return a reality. The club have already sent in their economic viability plan to La Liga for approval, and once the green light comes, they will table a formal contract offer to the legend.

For now, though, everything hinges on the league and whether they are willing to accept Barça’s viability plan.
