Bruno Fernandes Will Not Be Available For Man United’s Next Two Games
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes will not be available to feature for his side as they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, according to a new report.
Fernandes sustained an ankle injury during United’s Wembley trip on Sunday where they beat Brighton on penalties in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
The Portuguese had to be taken off during the first period of extra time, with club staff keen not to risk further aggravating his injury.
Fernandes watched from the sidelines as his side won by penalties to set up an all-Manchester FA Cup final to be played in six weeks’ time.
The Peoples Person recently covered a report centred on an injury update provided by Fernandes’s wife.
Ana Pinho posted a picture of the United number 18 relaxing on the sofa, with his strapped foot slightly elevated.
Alongside Fernandes, were crutches and a protective boot.
According to The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson, the protective boot is only a precaution taken by United.
This is good news for United fans who were fearing the worst, during a season in which Erik ten Hag has been plagued by injuries to numerous crucial first-team stars.
However, The Mirror relays that Fernandes has been ruled out of the Tottenham clash and is not guaranteed to be available to feature against Aston Villa.
“It is understood Fernandes will miss tomorrow’s trip to Spurs and is also a doubt for Sunday’s visit of Aston Villa to Old Trafford,” the outlet writes.
“United boss Erik ten Hag is desperate to have Fernandes fit and available to help secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.”
If The Mirror is right, in Fernandes’s absence, it will fall on Casemiro, Marcel Sabitzer and Christian Eriksen to anchor the midfield. However, United fans will be hoping that Jackson’s more optimistic claim is true and that United’s number 8 could still recover in time to play some part in Thursday’s game.
