Chelsea have been linked with a move for Mohammed Salisu the Southampton centre back.
Football Insider are breaking stories left right and centre at the moment, and they’re now saying that the Blues are “plotting” a move for the centre back after a late January move collapsed.
We’re not sure we believe any of it. It was already quite surprising that the club signed Benoit Badiashile in January when they already had a good ground of centre backs on their books, but it made sense given the former Monaco man’s exceptional quality.
But to sign Salisu as well? Leaving the club with Salisu, Badiashile, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Wesley Fofana at centre back, along with Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marc Cucurella all able to play at wide centre back in a 3?
That just doesn’t make much sense to us.
We may yet sign 23 year old Salisu this summer, but we would think at least two of those players would have to leave first.
