Christophe Dugarry Explains Why Messi Two Week Suspension Is The Right Decision
Paris Saint-Germain took a stance against Lionel Messi on Tuesday as the capital club reportedly suspended the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner after he took an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia.
Messi will be away for two weeks and RMC Sport pundit Christophe Dugarry believes that the French giants made the right decision to punish the Argentine. However, Dugarry notes that this suspension also demonstrates a lack of consistency at the Ligue 1 club.
“The sanction is deserved and appropriate, in my opinion,” Dugarry said on RMC Sport. “Afterwards, what surprises me is that this decision comes from Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, therefore, from the emir. For me, it is the coach who must take this decision.
“Let’s remember that there were much more serious things; I am thinking in particular of Serge Aurier, who had insulted his coach and replayed three weeks later.
“The decision is appropriate, but it remains quite astonishing. Bizarrely justified, bizarrely announced… We do not know the ins and outs. It is once again nebulous and it again shows that the club functions in the big anything.”
The 35-year-old’s contract with PSG expires in June, and it seems his days in the French capital are ending. FC Barcelona eyes a reunion with their former player, but their financial situation is a major hurdle.
If the La Liga side cannot overcome its economic crisis then Messi might have to look at other options outside of Europe. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is linked to Saudia Arabian club Al-Hilal and MLS side Inter Miami as destinations other than Barcelona and PSG.
