Erik Ten Hag Confirms Huge Marcus Rashford Injury Blow And Raphael Varane Boost
Manchester United are preparing for their final four Premier League games of the season, with Erik ten Hag’s men needing 9 points from a possible 12 if their top-four rivals win all of their remaining games.
United have lost back-to-back games in the league and are now up against it, with Liverpool breathing down their necks in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Reds have struggled in front of goal this season and for the majority of the season, Marcus Rashford has been the player to come up with the goods.
But now, with a gruelling final four weeks of the campaign remaining, Ten Hag has confirmed that his talismanic forward is a doubt for this weekend’s game against Wolves with a leg injury.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Ten Hag described Rashford as a ‘big question mark’, hinting that he may miss more than the Wolves games.
It was not all bad news for Ten Hag, however, with the former Ajax boss confirming that star defender Raphael Varane is ready for a return after almost a month on the sidelines.
“Rapha [Varane] is back, but we have doubts over Marcus [Rashford]. We are doubtful, more than doubtful. There is a big question mark over him,” Ten Hag said according to the Manchester Evening News.
SN’s verdict… Rashford has scored 29 goals in all competitions this season and he could become the first United player to score 30 since Robin van Persie did so 10 years ago.
With United continuing to struggle in the final third, losing Rashford is a huge blow to their chances of returning to Europe’s fine dining table.
The return of Varane is far more pleasant news after the Frenchman and partner-in-crime Lisandro Martinez were ruled out in the same game.
