Manchester United Linked With Move For Premier League Midfielder

This summer’s summer transfer window is approaching and Erik ten Hag will be keen on strengthening a number of areas, with midfield and attacking options possibly being looked at.

Marcus Rashford aside, United are lacking a consistent goalscorer and it is believed that most of their efforts will be to bring one in this summer.

Signing a midfielder could also be high on Ten Hag’s wishlist as he continues to rebuild the squad less than a year after taking over from Ralf Rangnick.

Fred, who has been at the club since 2018, has just one year remaining on his contract and Marcel Sabitzer is expected to return to Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

That leaves Ten Hag short of options and now, the club has been linked with Everton midfield Amadou Onana, who has been one of the Toffees’ standout stars in a difficult campaign.

That’s according to Football Insider, who say that United are interested in the Belgian international following a green light of approval from Ten Hag.

As per the report, United are keeping tabs on Onana’s situation, with Ten Hag keen on adding ‘power and physicality’ to his midfield this summer.

It’s claimed that although Onana has four more years remaining on his deal at Goodison Park, the 21-year-old is ready to push for a transfer if Everton are relegated.

Everton are currently two points clear of the drop as we enter the final two weeks of Premier League action.

In the event of Everton getting relegated, United could be able to sign Onana for a cut-price deal and amid the uncertainty surrounding the ownership of the club, that may be the route United go down this summer.

Onana has done well in his first Premier League season and he’s still young and has plenty of time to develop. He’s a regular for Belgium and if there is an opportunity to sign him this summer, United should at least be exploring it.
