There is no wonder that Barcelona are bracing themselves for a crucial summer ahead, with a host of players likely to depart Camp Nou.
While the club are looking to push for the departures of Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and Sergino Dest, among others, there might be some unwanted exits too.
According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Caught Offside), one of those potential surprise exits could be Franck Kessie, as Inter Milan have continued to keep close tabs on his development.
The midfielder was linked with a move to Giuseppe Meazza in January and that has not changed at all over the past few months.
Inter Milan’s persistence on Kessie is hardly surprising as the Ivorian has won over hearts with his performances since the turn of the year.
In the absence of the injured Pedri and even Frenkie de Jong, he has established himself as a vital first-team outlet for Xavi Hernandez.
Kessie’s redemption has impressed everyone at Barcelona, even forcing the club to shift their stance on his future.
However, with clubs like Inter keeping tabs on the midfielder, coupled with Barcelona’s desperate need to reduce their salary budget, one could sense that Kessie’s departure might not be ruled out completely this coming summer.
Barcelona, after all, are open to the sale of one of their star players in Ansu Fati while even Ferran Torres has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou. So a sale of Kessie cannot be ruled out, especially with the club keeping tabs on Marcelo Brozovic of Inter Milan.
As things stand, though, it is too early to ascertain the future of the former AC Milan starlet. A lot more will be revealed in the coming weeks as we enter the final phase of the campaign.
