Graham Potter Jokes About Job Security Meeting With Todd Boehly
Chelsea head coach Graham Potter was able to have a laugh about his job security following the Blues’ progression to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
After losing 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their last 16 tie, Chelsea won 2-0 back at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night in one of their best overall performances under Potter.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring in the first half, before Kai Havertz sealed their place in the last eight with a penalty after the break.
Having beaten Leeds United on Saturday, Chelsea have now claimed back-to-back victories for the first time since October.
Potter has come in for plenty of criticism following a run which saw the Blues win just one of 11 games to open 2023, and speaking after Tuesday’s win, he spoke of his relief at finally getting some positive results on the board.
“Inevitably in life, you are going to have bad times and you’re going to have good times,” Potter said regarding taking responsibility for their awful run.
“Things are never bad forever, thankfully. But it felt like that sometimes.
“Big thanks to the supporters. They were amazing tonight, they helped us on Saturday and they helped us this evening. So it’s brilliant for everyone connected with the club.”
Potter was then asked if he had spoken to Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly post-match, shrugging and laughing: “I’m still here!”
