Jadon Sancho could miss the remainder of Manchester United’s season, according to interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Sancho was absent for United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Thursday evening with tonsillitis, joining Edinson Cavani, Fred, Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw on the sidelines. Jesse Lingard and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also missed the clash with the Blues.

After the match against Chelsea, Rangnick conducted a pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s match against Brentford, and the German ruled the winger out of the clash with Thomas Frank’s side.

He added that he could be unavailable for even longer.

“Jadon might be out for the rest of the season with his tonsillitis,” said the German. “He will most likely be unavailable against Brentford.”

The meeting with the Bees will be the Reds’ final home fixture of the season, with Rangnick’s side travelling south to face Brighton next week, before concluding the season at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace.

The trip to the Eagles takes place 15 days after our game with the Seagulls, so Rangnick hopes Sancho might be back for then.

He said: “(It is) another three weeks to go against Crystal Palace. But for the next two games, I think it is unlikely (that Sancho will play).”

The German elaborated on the extent of the winger’s illness, outlining his wish for Sancho to make a swift recovery.

“He’s got inflammation on his tonsils and has also had some high temperatures so that’s why he was not available tonight and he will most certainly not be available for the next two matches,” he said.

“Hopefully, they can get hold of that inflammation and if his tonsils have to be removed, that can happen at the end of the season.”
