Kylian Mbappe In Talks Over Contract Extension
- Kylian Mbappe In Talks With PSG Over An Extended Contract.
Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappe look to have put their contract feud behind them as talks of a new deal have begun to swarm the media.
Both parties are keen to finalise negotiations over an extended contract that effectively rules out the Frenchman’s long-touted departure this summer.
Sky Sports reports that they are considering two options, which could see Mbappe activate the initial one-year extension that will keep him at the club until 2025 or sign an entirely new deal.
PSG were unwilling to allow Mbappe to run down his contract and had accepted a world record €300 million offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal, who were eager to make a statement signing.
However, the World Cup winner was uninterested in a move to the Middle East despite being offered an earth-shattering salary package worth €700m for just one year.
Mbappe turned down the chance to speak to representatives from Al Hilal, but the Saudi club ultimately got their box office transfer as they completed a €95m move for his ex-teammate Neymar.
The Brazilian’s exit will allow Mbappe to feature in his favoured left-wing role, and it appears Neymar’s departure has also tilted the tides in PSG’s favour, with the Frenchman now set to pen a contract extension.
Perhaps Real Madrid’s reluctance to fork out an outrageous sum to force his exit from PSG also contributed to Mbappe’s change of heart.
Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Celta Vigo, Carlo Ancelotti ruled out the prospect of adding new faces to his squad, which he claimed is already complete.
When asked about the possibility of some last-minute reinforcement, the Italian manager said (via Mundo Deportivo): “No, I rule that out. 100% no – the squad is closed.”
Mbappe’s new deal does not change much regarding his future at Parc des Princes, but at the very least, it means he is not going anywhere this summer.
While multiple reports claim he is committed to the PSG project, the France international is still eager to join Madrid, who are long-term admirers of his craft.
The new contract satisfies PSG, who were desperate not to lose him for free next year, which could have been devastating from a financial and sporting point of view.
However, Mbappe’s long-term future at the French capital is far from secure, with Madrid still lurking with intent.
