Kylian Mbappe Speaks Out On Vinicius Jr, Racism In Football: “We Must Do More”
Florentino Perez has been working towards Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid for a long time now. The Frenchman looked poised to make the dream move this summer, but things haven’t quite worked out as Los Blancos hoped for.
There is once again a cloud of doubt over Mbappe’s immediate future. With the player unwilling to let go of his economic bonuses and PSG not prepared to let him leave on a free transfer, the two parties are stuck in an endless loop.
Not much can thus be said on the matter. Reports suggest that PSG are offering a contract extension with improved terms, and Real Madrid will hope the player does end up making his way to the Bernabeu this time out.
On Tuesday, the French star gave an interview with NCI Sports (h/t MARCA) and touched upon a number of topics barring his future. In fact, Andres Onrubia reports that it was a pre-agreed condition to not cover the controversial topic.
One of the subjects touched upon during the interaction was of racism in today’s football. Mbappe gave a special mention to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr and the repeated targetted racist attacks at him while giving his firm opinion on the matter.
“The players must do more against racism. We have started but we must do more. We must discuss with the authorities. Vinicius has suffered but he is not the only one, we must not leave the door open to that type of conduct.”
The PSG star then strongly condemned the practice of jeering players based on their colour and called for it to be stopped in the upcoming campaign.
“Question of racism? It is impossible for this to happen in 2023. The last case was Vinicius but there are many more cases. We cannot allow these behaviors to happen.”
