La Liga Will Accept Barcelona’s Economic Viability Plan After ‘Very Positive’ Meeting
Earlier this week, it was reported that Barcelona held a meeting with La Liga officials in Madrid in order to discuss the possible return of Lionel Messi.
The 35-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the season when his PSG contract expires and Barcelona are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to bring back their former captain.
However, for that to happen, they must resolve their Financial Fair Play issues by reducing their salary mass by a huge amount. To that end, an economic viability plan has been already formulated and submitted to the league for approval.
Now, Veronica Brunati has provided an update on the aforementioned meeting between Barcelona and La Liga.
As per the journalist, director Mateu Alemany and treasurer Ferran Olivé met with La Liga officials to discuss Barcelona’s Fair Play issue and not the details of Messi’s contract, although both matters remain inter-linked and it is important for the club to meet the Fair Play targets to go ahead with Messi’s signing.
Furthermore, as per Veronica Brunati, the meeting between the club and the league was ‘very positive’ and the two parties are making progress when it comes to the economic viability plan.
As per the feasibility plan proposed by Barcelona, there will be player sales and a remodelling of the squad to some extent, with the club needing to reduce their wage bill by a massive €180 million.
But, based on the meeting, there is a lot of optimism that La Liga will accept Barça’s economic viability plan.
This, in turn, would allow the Catalan giants to press ahead and table a contract offer for Messi, who is said to be waiting for it. The 35-year-old is willing to accept a reduced salary to secure a return to his former club this summer and all things point towards a reunion.
