Lille Forward Jonathan David Says He Was A Childhood Barcelona Fan

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Winamax FC, Lille OSC forward Jonathan David (23) revealed that Barcelona was his childhood club.

David is expected to leave Les Dogues at the end of the current season, despite having a contract that runs until 2025. As reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Canadian forward is attracting interest from many clubs across Europe, including Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig.

David is enjoying his best season for Lille, even if it is his last. He currently has 19 Ligue 1 goals to his name and is the joint-top scorer alongside Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé. With rumours over David’s next destination swirling, the former KAA Gent forward has spoken with Winamax FC and revealed that Barcelona are his childhood club.

“I was a big fan of Barcelona when I was younger,” said David. He also revealed that he was inspired by many Barcelona forwards, most notably Ronaldinho. “When I was young, my idol was Ronaldinho because he was a player that could do everything on the pitch, but he wasn’t in the same position as me.

I also liked to follow the example of players such as Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba,” concluded the Canadian international. Perhaps in the future, he will follow in the footsteps in some of the aforementioned players and make the move to the Camp Nou.
