Lionel Messi And Kylian Mbappe Named In PSG Squad Ahead Of Bayer Munich Clash
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are back in contention ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League first leg against Bayern Munich.
The pair have been two of the best players in the world this season. Messi has recorded 15 goals and 14 assists in all competitions at club level while also winning Player of the Tournament at the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Mbappe was the leading goalscorer in Qatar and has also been phenomenal for PSG. He is currently the joint-top scorer in the Champions League, level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah on seven.
Both players missed Saturday’s defeat to Monaco. Mbappe was absent against his former club due to an injury sustained in PSG’s victory over Montpellier, and Messi picked up a hamstring problem in the Coupe de France loss to Marseille.
The forwards were expected to be on the sidelines for the upcoming Champions League match against Bayern Munich. However, they could feature, having both been named in the club’s matchday squad.
It’s a massive game for Les Parisiens. They have won everything domestically several times over but are yet to achieve European glory. And, with the futures of some of their biggest stars still uncertain, there is a feeling that this could be their last chance.
The closest they came to lifting this trophy came back in 2020. They reached the final, but were defeated by Tuesday’s opponents thanks to Kingsley Coman’s second-half goal.
Christophe Galtier’s men enter the game in patchy form. They have lost each of their last two and four of their last ten, having gone unbeaten in their previous 23.
By contrast, Bayern Munich head to the Parc des Princes in high spirits. They have lost just once all season and are undefeated in their last 19 outings.
