Marcel Sabitzer Picks Up Knee Injury On International Duty With Austria

Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Austria.

Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick spoke at a press conference to preview the country’s second Euro 2024 qualifier, which takes place against Estonia tonight.

Sabitzer, who could stay at United beyond his loan deal, was withdrawn towards the end of a 4-1 win over Azerbaijan last week. The midfielder scored a brace and also provided an assist, so he will be a loss for tonight’s game.

“In the end, it is a question of pain and pain tolerance for both Marcel and Gernot,” Rangnick told reporters, as per ManUtd.com.

“Of course, we hope that Marcel will do well, especially after that first game in Linz. At the moment, I’m optimistic that it can work but, at the end of the day, it’s also a question of whether Marcel feels ready for it himself. At the moment, I am assuming he’ll play.

“It made more sense to leave them out [of the session again, just to give them one more day. But there are enough other candidates.”

United are expected to carefully monitor developments as Sabitzer could miss the coming games, which is a blow because Erik ten Hag is already having to select a side without the suspended Casemiro.

Casemiro serves the second of his four-game ban in Sunday’s clash, away to Newcastle.
