ORLANDO PIRATES CO-COACH: ‘It’s Not Over’
Mandla Ncikazi insists his side have it all still to play for despite a convincing 2-0 first-leg win over Al Ahli Tripoli in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
Innocent Maela and Goodman Mosele were on the scoresheet as Pirates clinched a crucial away win at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
“The game is not over as it’s only half-time and we’re only leading,” Ncikazi said post-match.
“When we go back home, they can do the same thing so we will treat the game very seriously. But it is important to understand the dynamics of African football that an away goal is important.
“We will treat the game as if it were a 0-0 score-line and respect them because they are a good team and we will try to proceed to the next round but we are going to prepare for a very good team.”
Ncikazi then paid tribute to his players for an impressive away performance in challenging conditions.
“One must give credit to our players I thought they applied themselves very well,” Ncikazi added.
“We must thank our team management for the logistical support and there are lots of people to thank but I am just happy and proud of our team for the win away from home.
“It was important to score and get a result.”
