Oscar Gloukh was one of the many players Barcelona were scouting during the January transfer window, as part of their plans to replace Memphis Depay and reinforce their options in the final third.
The young forward was plying his trade with Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv at the time. But despite Barcelona’s interest, the Catalan missed out on the player, as he eventually joined RB Salzburg in a deal worth €7 million.
In a recent media interaction, Gloukh opened up on his missed Barcelona move in the summer, suggesting that the Catalans had joined the race late.
“Barcelona? I was very excited that they wanted me, but they joined the race late and they remembered when we were already closed on Salzburg,” he said (h/t Raz Amir).
Gloukh, though, feels he made the right decision to join Salzburg, adding, “We knew it was the best choice for me. In the end, I believe we made the right decision.”
The 18-year-old, though, is yet to get his spell in Austria up and running. He has failed to get himself involved in a single goal in five competitive matches for RB Salzburg.
However, these are still early days and there is still time for Gloukh to prove himself at RB Salzburg. With the Austrian giants consistently participating at the highest level of Europe, the youngster will certainly have the platform to prove himself.
Barcelona, for their part, may continue to keep tabs on the blazing forward, who likes to operate as an attacking midfielder. It will be interesting to see how the player progresses in his new adventure in Austria over the coming years.
