PAUL MERSON EXPLAINS WHY HE PREFERS WATCHING TOTTENHAM TO MANCHESTER UNITED.
Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he prefers watching Tottenham to Manchester United at the moment – but claims that United are still in the race to finish in fourth place. He says Tottenham have that “wow” factor.
Last weekend’s results have swung the top-four race in the direction of Tottenham. Arsenal were easily beaten by Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace 3-0, while Manchester United failed to beat Leicester City at Old Trafford.
It sees Spurs sit in fourth on 54 points, level with Arsenal – but the Gunners have a game in hand. However, that game in hand is away at Chelsea. Arsenal also have to travel across North London to Tottenham on May 12.
Manchester United, meanwhile, sit three points behind Arsenal and Tottenham on 51 points – having played the same amount as Spurs. West Ham are also on 51, but have played 31 – two more than Arsenal.
Merson discussed the top four. He says Manchester United still have a chance of achieving fourth spot, but prefers watching Spurs at the moment as Antonio Conte has got them playing in a way that makes you say “wow”.
“I don’t watch them [United] and think ‘wow’, which I do with Tottenham at the moment. I watch United and I don’t see it at all. But they’re still in it. Everyone keeps telling me they have the best players, I don’t get that one.”
Wayne Rooney made an excellent point during his appearance on Monday Night Football in the week. Forget run-ins, forget injuries, forget games in hand. Rooney says Arsenal lack the experience Spurs have.
For United, with eight games to go, they are now three points behind their North London rivals. For all that is going on at Old Trafford, they lack the chemistry that Spurs are showing and Arsenal did – pre-Palace.
