Real Madrid Hit Back At Barcelona President Joan Laporta Over ‘Regime Team’ Claim
Joan Laporta’s press conference on Monday was summoned to discuss the issue of Barcelona’s links in the Negreira case, the payments made for the former vice-president of the referee’s committee, and the allegations of manipulating on-field decisions.
As the Barcelona president’s interview progressed, however, it became clear that his emphasis was on Real Madrid and the obsession with calling them a favoured institution.
Laporta’s comments repeatedly stressed the point that Los Blancos have been given an easier route to titles and accolades and were the true club ‘backed by the regime’.
The Catalan club president’s statements have not gone down well in Madrid, and the Merengues have instantly hit back with an unexpected weapon.
Through a short video of fewer than five minutes posted on their social media, Real Madrid have slammed Barcelona with evidence from the past depicting that it was them who always remained the pampered team.
The video on Twitter was centre around Francisco Franco, the military general who led the Nationalist forces in the Spanish Civil War and subsequently served as Spain’s dictator for over 35 years.
“Barcelona awarded the insignia of gold and brilliants to Franco. Barcelona made Franco an honorary member in 1965. Barcelona was saved 3 times from bankruptcy with 3 reclassifications by Franco.”
The video also highlighted how the league was designed to be won by Barcelona at that time, making it virtually impossible for the Madrid-based club to win any accolades.
“Barça won 8 La Liga’s and 9 Cups during Franco’s tenure. Real Madrid went 15 years without La Liga during that time. During the Civil War, Real Madrid players were m*rdered, detained or exiled.”
The Spotify Camp Nou, to this date, is synonymous with FC Barcelona and stands as their home ground and symbol. Florentino Perez’s masterstroke took a deadly shot that the stadium took with a revelation.
“The Camp Nou was inaugurated by the General Minister of Franco.”
The video ended with a famous quote from Santiago Bernabeu, the pioneer of Real Madrid who also fought alongside Franco in the Civil War, that took a big dig at the Catalan President’s accusations.
“When I hear that Real Madrid has been the regime team, it makes me want to sh*t on the father of the one who says it.”
It would be fair to say that after yesterday’s events, the relationship between the two clubs will no longer be the same. It will be interesting to see if Laporta & co. respond to Real Madrid’s
