Tottenham Set To Battle Chelsea For Former Barcelona Manager

Tottenham are planning to rival Chelsea’s interest in Luis Enrique as they look for their next manager.

Spurs are on the lookout for their fourth permanent managerial appointment since November 2019, with Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santo and Antonio Conte all failing to replicate the kind of relative success that Mauricio Pochettino achieved.

Pochettino has been linked with a return to the North London club, while Spurs are interested in Julian Nagelsmann following his sacking from Bayern Munich.

Nagelsmann is also on the radar of Chelsea and has already held talks with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, while the Blues have also had discussions with Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Enrique.

According to the Telegraph, Spurs are also planning to ‘make contact’ with former Barcelona and Spain boss Enrique, as they look to ‘step up’ their search for a new permanent manager.

They say that Spurs are planning on holding talks ‘as early as next week’, though there is ‘no suggestion’ that the Spaniard is the club’s top target or if he will be offered the job.

Enrique is said keen to get back into work and is thought to want to test himself in the Premier League.

The report says that Tottenham also ‘admire’ Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany. A move to bring back Pochettino would be a popular decision among fans, though a move to bring the Argentine back to N17 is ‘not currently on Tottenham’s agenda’.
