Report: Memphis Depay Wants To Take Revenge From Barcelona On The Weekend
As Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid in La Liga this coming weekend, it promises to be a special match for Memphis Depay.
The former Barcelona attacker will take on his former side for the first time after leaving Camp Nou, in favour of a move to Atleti in January. He was not too keen on leaving the club but ultimately had to succumb to pressure, with Barça sanctioning a €3 million sale.
Barcelona wanted Memphis to leave the club even in the summer, but the player was adamant about staying and fighting for his place in the side. That did not go down too well, with the former Manchester United starlet falling behind in the pecking order.
Given his poor relationship with Barcelona, Memphis now wants to exact revenge on the Catalans this weekend, reports Diario SPORT.
Formerly of Lyon, Depay hasn’t had a bad start to his life in Atletico Madrid. In eight competition matches, the striker has racked up three goals, complementing the likes of Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann in the final third.
Depay missed out on the last three matches due to a muscle injury. But he should be back in action for the Barcelona game and as per reports, he is keen on proving a point by producing a specular performance at Camp Nou.
It remains to be seen whether or not Depay will be given a starting berth in the team, especially as Diego Simeone proceeds with caution.
But there is no doubt the Dutchman will play a key role in Atletico’s offensive unit, which comprises two former Barcelona stars in the form of Griezmann and Depay himself. However, it could be a challenge for the two to break down a Barcelona side that has recorded the best defensive record in the league this season.
