Report: Real Madrid Reach Total Agreement To Renew Luka Modric
On the day of Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final against Osasuna, Sergio Santos brings forth news that calls for celebration even before kickoff at Estadio de La Cartuja.
According to the Spanish journalist, Real Madrid and Luka Modric have reached a complete agreement over a contract renewal. The negotiations are now so advanced that only a signature remains before the deal is announced.
The Croatian will extend until the summer of 2024 at the moment, but there is an option to add another year based on the player’s feelings and role come next June. With the contracts drafted and approved by both parties, the process could be completed in the coming days.
The renewal will see Modric hold on to his stature as one of the club’s highest-paid players, maintaining the wages he is currently on. Only Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard claim a larger paycheck.
Modric, at 37 years of age, continues to be one of Carlo Ancelotti’s most indispensable players on the big nights. The veteran is completely committed to the club and remains intent on achieving even more success at the Santiago Bernabeu.
He rejected an offer worth close to €30 million per season from Saudi Arabia to stay at Real Madrid and fight out another season.
Modric’s role next season could be starkly different, especially considering that Jude Bellingham is very close to signing for the Merengues. The veteran is thus expected to take up the role of a mentor-cum-player, showing youngsters the path to success whilst contributing on the big nights as well.
Modric is expected to play a part in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Osasuna but his starting role on the night is still under a cloud of doubt. The final decision will be taken just hours before kickoff.
