Trent Alexander-Arnold Gives Brutal Verdict On Arsenal’s Title Chances

Arsenal suffered a huge blow to their title hopes when they lost 4-1 to Manchester City last month.

The Gunners subsequently bounced back emphatically against Chelsea on Tuesday night, sealing a comfortable 3-1 success at the Emirates Stadium. But they still find themselves a point behind City despite having played an extra game.

The North Londoners will now travel to Newcastle aiming to overhaul the Citizens’ one-point lead.

The Magpies held them to a goalless draw in their previous meeting, and the coming St James’ Park encounter is also expected to be very tough for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Ahead of Sunday’s big clash, Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared his opinion on the Premier League title race.

The 24-year-old has claimed it is obvious City will pip the Gunners to the title.

He told Red Bull: “The leage’s obvious now and I’ve said it for a while. If City are even anywhere close, if they smell blood at Christmas, New Year – it’s game over really, there’s no stopping them once they start winning and now at this point, I’d be surprised if they drew a game.

“I think it’s just got to be mindset, I think it’s just the messaging because they don’t even go behind in games at this point. There’s no messing around, there’s no scares, there’s no ups and downs.”

Arsenal were the favourites for the league title at the start of April when they boasted a healthy lead over their rivals.

But the three high-scoring draws followed by the 4-1 thrashing at the Etihad completely changed everything.

Now the Citizens are firmly in control of the title race, with Pep Guardiola’s men hitting an excellent run of form at the perfect time.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s assessment is absolutely right. City are unlikely to drop any more points in the run-in, and the Gunners have no chance if they don’t.

The defending champions have completely dominated their opponents in their previous games.

They could even end up winning a treble of trophies, with the Manchester giants also likely to lift the Champions League and FA Cup.
